Burn Season

The area known as the grove has a large amount of eucalyptus trees  within the area. The trees drop a lot of debris  each  year. The fallen dry debris is a huge fire risk should a fire ignite during the hot dry months of the year. The winds in the area are unpredictable and could be devastating in conjunction with a wild fire. There are many homes in the area that could be wiped out if these conditions occur. Lives and property could be lost.   The No Burn Policy has been put in place to minimize the risk of fire destroying property and/or life.

Description

The No Burn Policy for the area known as “The Grove” within the Zamora Fire District is made up of several parcels and is identified in figure 11. The red line encompasses the parcels within the wooded area with highest fire risk and shall be subject to the policies listed below.

1.    There shall be no burning of yard trimmings/pruning’s or other flammable material  between April 1 and October 31. Awareness signs will be posted on the north end of road 91B, the south end of road 91B, and on the south end of eucalyptus road.

2.    Any one violating this policy may be subject  to lawsuits if your fire were to get away during the no burn period and cause loses to the property of others. Please don’t take the risk.

3.    Burning piles of yard trimmings/ pruning’s is encouraged after some heavy rains have fallen dampening the dry material within the grove during the permitted burn period.    Burning  yard trimmings/pruning’s in the wet months of the year is encouraged and will help minimize the risk of wild fire during the dry months.

4.    See Figure 11 (attached map) which identifies the boundaries of the No Burn Policy.

5.    The burning of trash (municipal solid waste)  in burn barrels or in yard pruning piles is strictly prohibited and has been for quite some time.

6.     Burning shall be allowed after November 1st preferably after heavy rains have fallen until March 31st. Dates may be extended in times of Drought.  Yolo County Fire Dispatch must be called to find out if in fact it is a burn day.  Fire dispatch will let you know the window of  time that you can burn your yard trimmings/pruning’s. Call YoloCounty Fire Dispatch @ 530-666-8920 to find out if it is a safe day to burn.
